Subjects needed for Study of Effects of HIV on Mind

A research program is now underway at The Ohio State University to examine the incidence and severity of cognitive changes associated with early stages of HIV infection. Participants in the study undertake an extensive battery of cognitive and mental tasks such as memory, concentration, and reaction time. Subjects also receive magnetic resonance imaging brain scans to detect changes in the brain. Participants are examined every six months to determine any changes in performance. The project will run at least five years. The goals of the study are to determine the frequency of cognitive changes associated with early stage HIV infection, and to identify factors which might, influence the occurrence or progression of these changes.
